Need a break? Find cottages in Conwy. Looking for somewhere different? Go to the search page.

An elegant fortified town cradling a picturesque harbour in its estuary, Conwy enjoys a fabulous location adjacent to the North Wales Coast. Also gateway to the spectacular Snowdonia National Park, this is the perfect place to rent a holiday cottage and enjoy interesting historical attractions, elegant towns and the lure of the great outdoors. The town of Conwy itself is dominated by its magnificent, somewhat austere Castle, built by King Edward I in the 13th century with the full intention of casting the masterful presence that it still commands today when viewed from the town's historic walls. Possibly of even greater significance for Conwy and for North Wales in terms of history is the Vardre, the original site of Degannwy Castle. Unfortunately and ironically today there is nothing but rubble here, remains of what was once a great fortress, home of Maelgwyn, King of Gwynedd, a powerful figurehead of 6th Century Britain who continued his great grandfather's mission to rid Wales of Irish invaders during the Dark Ages and went on to establish the Royal Line of Wales.

North Wales is proud of its heritage, but Conwy offers a wealth of attractions aside from its historical relics, which are worth visiting if you rent a holiday lodge or traditional cottage in the area. After a stroll along the town's ancient walls, you may wish to take a peek inside Britain's tiniest house, once inhabited by a 6ft fisherman, located on the Quayside along with the town's quirky mussel museum, which tells of Conwy's importance as a pearl fishery in the 19th century. A gentle stroll out towards Bodlondeb Woods will lead you to Conwy butterfly jungle for an enlightening and educational experience with some of the world's most exotic and beautiful butterfli

es. The ever popular Welsh Mountain Zoo is also close by at Colwyn bay, and Pensychnant Nature Reserve offers a more tranquil experience within 120 acres of parkland with far-reaching views of the Conwy Valley and the Carneddau mountains. Just five miles from Conwy, the large seaside town of Llandudno maintains an air of Victorian splendour that has been lost from so many other British seaside resorts, with its fine pier and long swathes of golden sands. Visit the town's amazing bronze age copper mines, a fascinating complex labyrinth of tunnels carved deep within the headland of the Great Orme above the bay, and the only mines of their kind to have been opened to the public.

Wherever you choose as a base for your holiday rental, the likelihood is that you will enjoy a home from home with panoramic views of the mountain peaks of Snowdonia. This huge area of outstanding natural beauty stretches down to Aberdovey and over as far as Lake Bala in the East, and has naturally evolved into a key centre for adventure sports. White water rafting, kayaking and abseiling are available at Bala, the little town of Betws-y-Coed provides some uphill challenges for avid mountain bikers, whilst sailing and pony trekking are a refreshing way to spend a day at Caernafon. For the less seasoned outdoor enthusiast, there are always the gentle riverside walks at Betws-y-Coed, or for a more relaxing day out you could opt to take a memorable trip on board the famous Snowdon mountain railway. This age-old steam train chugs nonchalantly towards the highest peaks of the mountainside from Llanberis, crossing viaducts and offering breathtaking views of waterfalls that plunge dramatically over rocky escarpments into the deepest green valleys
