About: High Bield is a detached house sleeping 8, which sits high above the beautiful village of Hartsop at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass. Built in the 1920s by the 'Glasgow Girl' Ann Macbeth, the house and garden have superb views of Brotherswater and Ullswater. The warm and cosy house was recently refurbished to a very high standard. The house is entered via the newly built sun porch - perfect for drying all your outdoor gear. A glazed door leads to the dining area, which take in the spectacular view over Brotherswater, and the newly fitted kitchen. There is a walk-in utility room with laundry facilities. The attractive sitting room with log burner has fine views. There are two good double bedrooms on the ground floor, one with a king-sized bed and one with a double bed, and a new bathroom with large shower, basin and wc. Upstairs you will find three further bedrooms - two generous singles, and an interestingly shaped twin which was formerly the artist studio. Upstairs is also a second bathroom with bath, basin and wc. Good views from all the main windows. The house is comfortable, newly decorated and equipped throughout with solid wood floors and rugs. Period features, like original fireplaces, have been retained throughout. Outside there is a lovely rocky hillside garden with wild flowers and mature trees which children will love as a hide-out. It is steep in places and very young children will need to be supervised. There is parking for two or three cars in the drive or garage. The approach to the house is up a track which can be an adventure in winter. Please take care if bringing a vehicle with little clearance. To see pictures of the track click on the link to our website on this page. The house is an excellent base from which to walk, around Angle Tarn, on to the High Street ridge, or over to Fairfield and St Sunday Crag. Also don't miss a cruise on beautiful Ullswater where you can take a steamer ride to Howtown with a walk back along the east side of the lake, or spend a full day sailing up to Pooley Bridge for lunch in one of the many local pubs or cafés. Glenridding and Patterdale make good bases with shops for daily supplies, outdoor equipment and several pubs and eating places. The nearest shops can be found in Patterdale - it has an excellent post office that sells firewood, newspapers and home made bread amongst other things.

About: Cragside Cottage is located on the site of a former, traditional, Lakeland hill farm, Greenah Crag, in the lee of a rocky outcrop from which it takes its name. A barn conversion, with open roof beams and part exposed stonework, the accommodation has been lovingly furnished by the owners. Balancing the traditions of the Lakeland setting with the modern facilities you would expect from a holiday cottage, Cragside is the ideal destination for couples, families and friends. Overlooked by the peaks of Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra and in close proximity to gentler but equally beautiful lakesides, walking and climbing are available on the doorstep. Whatever your interests; biking, sailing, wildlife, natural history or simply relaxation, the area around Cragside is crammed with activities for all the family. The cottage is lovely, spacious and comfortable (even for 6 adults) and we were able to go for some superb walks just by heading off over the fields from the farm. Holly - London Located in a secluded but accessible location, Cragside Cottage is ideal for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley, North Pennines, Border Country and Hadrian's Wall. The M6 Motorway is 8 miles away, Keswick 10 miles away and Ullswater 6 miles away. We stayed at Cragside Cottage and can only say positive things about the accommodation. The location was idyllic and extremely quiet and peaceful, whilst being convenient for several pubs for eating out. If eating out is not what you want the facilities for eating in are first class. This is a perfect place as a base for walking the northern fells or exploring the lakes. We will definitely go again and recommend it to our friends. Dave - Wigan This property offers 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and a bathroom (with bath and shower) on ground floor level. The first floor comprises of a large open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen (approx 11m x 5m). We really did have a lovely time and liked the cottage very much! We were surprised by the spaciousness of the upper floor, we don't think your description or photos do justice to it! It really is a big selling point. Helena - Bedford We had a lovely stay! The upstairs living room was excellent. Sitting at the dining table and watching the lambs was very sweet. Linda - Newcastle The first floor includes an additional toilet/shower room. There is a south facing patio area to the rear of the property, ideal for BBQ's. Facilities include an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with freezing compartment, dishwasher, washing machine and 32” colour TV with Freeview. All cooking utensils, kitchen equipment and bed linen are provided for guests. The cottage has full oil-fired central heating and newly fitted carpets throughout. In summer 2010 2 new bathrooms and a new kitchen were fitted, to further enhance the appearance of the already exceptionally equipped property.
