Lyme Regis

The seaside town of Lyme Regis nestles within a dramatically diverse stretch of coastline just beyond the border between Devon and Dorset. Dubbed the Jurassic coast, this is an amazing place to explore for anyone fascinated by geology and geography or anyone who simply enjoys the beauty of diverse coastal landscapes. Take a boat trip and explore the beauty of the coast or spend an afternoon fossil hunting and see what hidden treasures you can uncover from the rocks.
Lyme Regis itself is a charming place to rent a self-catering holiday cottage and enjoy fresh sea air, lazy days on the beach and good old-fashioned family fun. It is the sea that has shaped the history of the town, beginning with the monks who used it to distill salt in the 18th century. The distinctive oak breakwaters were then built as the harbour grew around its shipbuilding and trade with France. Today the reconstructed 'Cobb' is a hub of activity where all manner of boating activities take place, with mackerel fishing, diving trips and pleasure cruises daily. Those who are wary of the waves may stay on dry land and still experience the treasures of the sea at the nearby Marine Aquarium, where all the fascinating sea creatures are locally caught and eventually released. Moving inland from the seafront, the town rises steeply in a labyrinth of winding streets cra
